Huntington Beach Beach-House Laundry: A Maintenance Habit Worth Building

Huntington Beach home laundry room with sandy beach towels piled on top of a front-load washer

Live within a mile of PCH in Huntington Beach and your laundry equipment is working harder than the same model in Tustin. The reason is sand.

We get a lot of calls in the downtown HB grid, Sunset Beach, and the Edwards Hill area where the complaint is a washer that’s vibrating badly or a dryer that’s getting hot but not drying.

On the washer side, sand and fine grit work their way past the tub seal and chew up the shock absorbers, which is why these machines start walking across the floor after a few years. We replace tub seals and shock absorbers more often in coastal HB than anywhere else in our service area. On the dryer side, the moisture sensor bars get coated in a lint-and-fabric-softener residue that’s made worse by salty, damp beach towels, and the dryer ends a cycle thinking the load is dry when it’s still wet.

Cleaning the sensor bars with a little rubbing alcohol every couple of months is the single best maintenance habit a HB household can build. The bars are right inside the drum, just past the lint screen opening; you can see them as two thin metal strips. Wipe both with a cotton ball and isopropyl, run a quick auto-dry cycle, and the readings come back accurate.

We’re a 10 to 15 minute drive from Costa Mesa to most of HB depending on time of day. We’re in the area constantly and know the access quirks on the older streets between Goldenwest and Beach. We carry common moisture sensor assemblies, blower wheels, and drum rollers on the truck.

For the parallel coastal-corrosion pattern we see on Newport Beach front-loaders, that post covers control-board damage from salt air.
